Firefighter

Firefighter is a civilian job in San Fierro where you respond to fires, put them out, and rescue pedestrians.

How the job works

Firefighter is a Civilian job based around fire calls and rescue work.

You go to the fire location, extinguish the flames with a Fire Extinguisher or on foot water hose, and rescue pedestrians when needed.

The job also has a Fire Truck side mission.

How to start

To become a Firefighter:

  1. Go to the Firefighter marker at the San Fierro Fire Department.
  2. Take the Firefighter job.

You can also use /jobs to find it.

At Level 10, you unlock:

  • /go firefighter

How it works

After taking the job:

  1. Go to the fire icon.
  2. Get out of your vehicle.
  3. Take the Fire Extinguisher.
  4. Spray out the flames.
  5. Rescue pedestrians if needed.

Firefighters can have up to 2 victims follow them to safety.

If you die during the mission, you lose 30% of that reward.

Vehicles

The main Firefighter job uses:

  • Fire Truck

Firefighters are not limited to only the Fire Truck when responding to fires.

Firefighter Side Mission

Enter a Fire Truck and press N to start the Firefighter side mission.

  • You have 5 minutes to extinguish as many burning vehicles as possible.
  • Stay in the Fire Truck, aim its mounted water hose at the burning vehicle, and hold LMB. Only the truck's mounted hose can extinguish these vehicles in this side mission.
  • The mission shows the target vehicle and location, marks it with a fire icon, and displays a progress bar above it.
  • After a vehicle is extinguished, another target is assigned while the same timer continues.
  • Press N again to cancel the side mission.
  • Leaving the Fire Truck also cancels this side mission and displays Cancelled current fire fighter mission.

Firefighter missions run in a loop so the same missions do not repeat too often. The Fire Truck side mission also works in Los Santos. Cancelling it still pays for vehicles already extinguished.

The timer starts at 5 minutes. The HUD shows Vehicles Extinguished and Time Remaining. Fire Truck has 3 versions.

Rescue Notes

Firefighters can:

  • Have up to 2 victims follow them to safety
  • Run while escorting victims
  • Heal by entering the ambulance where rescued pedestrians are taken

Cash earned in a Firefighter mission is saved when you log out. Firefighters can use /sirens.

If a Firefighter takes LSD, they can see the locations of the pedestrians they need to rescue on the map.

Rapid Transport restriction

Using Rapid Transport cancels an active Fire Truck mission.

Job skin

Firefighter can use skin ID 277.

Current fire and rescue controls

For normal fires, aim the Fire Extinguisher at the flame and hold LMB while the progress bar fills. Normal house and location fires also allow an on foot water hose equipped with N near a mission Fire Truck. The separate Fire Truck side mission uses the Fire Truck hose for burning vehicles.

Victims appear at red markers. A normal fire gives 1 Progress, while a rescued victim or completed Fire Truck target gives 10. Call timers and target counts vary, and partial work can still pay when time expires. Press N to cancel the Fire Truck side mission. Normal firefighter calls and the vehicle side mission can run at the same time.

VIP adds 20% to the normal fire and rescue payments. Hourly Double Earnings also applies to Firefighter rewards. The Fire Truck side mission pays no more than 10 vehicles per mission.

Mission areas and victim rescue

  • Firefighter missions can occur on City Island as well as the normal mainland locations.
  • Rescue victims do not follow a Firefighter who is using a vehicle or jetpack. Lead them on foot to the red rescue marker beside the ambulance.

Stay close to following victims. If you move too far ahead, the victim stops and Get your following ped nearer to you! appears. Return within range to continue.

Hose controls and length

Normal fires at houses and other locations can be extinguished with a Fire Extinguisher or an on foot water hose:

  • With the Fire Extinguisher, aim at the flame and hold LMB. The progress bar fills while you spray.
  • Press N near a mission Fire Truck to equip or drop the water hose. With the hose equipped, aim using the camera and hold your fire key to spray.
  • For the hose, move within 10 m of the fire and aim at its base with a clear line of sight. The extinguishing progress bar fills while you spray, and Fire extinguished! confirms completion.
  • The hose's maximum length is 50 m. Hose remaining shows its remaining length, not a water supply quantity.

A normal fire and rescue call can remain active while you do the Fire Truck burning vehicle side mission. Leaving the truck cancels the burning vehicle side mission, not the normal fire and rescue call.
