Binds

Binds let you assign keys to commands in CIT, and they can also be changed through the MTA Binds tab.

Bind Systems

CIT has two main bind systems:

  • CIT command binds, which use /bind
  • MTA key bindings, which are changed from the Binds tab in settings

CIT Command Binds

CIT command binds let you attach a command to a key.

Use:

  • /bind <key> <command>

This makes the command run directly when you press that key.

Chatbox Binds

You can also make a key open the chatbox with a command already prepared.

Use:

  • /bind <key> chatbox <command>

This does not send the message right away. It opens the chatbox with the command ready to type.

Example

Example chatbox bind:

  • /bind i chatbox gc

This opens Group Chat on I.

Direct Message Binds

You can also bind a key to instantly send a full message.

Example:

  • /bind 5 gc Hello!

This sends that exact Group Chat message when you press 5.

Common Chatbox Shortcuts

Common chatbox shortcuts include:

  • gc
  • sc
  • uc
  • main
  • sup
  • fmsg
  • locf

How to check a bind

To check what is bound to a key, use:

  • /binds <key>

How to remove binds

To remove one bind from a key, use:

  • /unbind <key> <command>

To remove all binds from a key, use:

  • /unbind <key>

CIT Settings Binds Tab

CIT also has a Binds tab in Settings for CIT script binds.

You can open that tab directly with:

  • /sbinds

That tab supports:

Bind editing details:

  • double click a bind with LMB to set Key 1
  • double click a bind with RMB to set Key 2
  • the tab shows Key 2 when an alternative key is set
  • if both primary and secondary binds are the same, they fall back to Key 1

MTA Binds Tab

The Binds tab in MTA settings is where you change keyboard, mouse, and controller bindings for MTA actions.

Key and Alt. Key

In the MTA Binds tab:

  • Key is the main bind for an action
  • Alt. Key columns are additional keys for the same action

You can bind more than one key to the same action there.

Load defaults

In the MTA Binds tab, Load defaults resets the bind list to the default MTA key bindings.

Bind Rules

  • /bind is for CIT command binds.
  • /bind <key> chatbox <command> opens the chatbox with a command ready.
  • /binds <key> checks the binds on a key.
  • /sbinds opens the Binds tab directly.
  • /unbind <key> <command> removes one bind.
  • /unbind <key> removes all binds on a key.
  • Sprint cannot be bound to the same key as aim or fire. Using that bind disables your controls.
  • MTA also has its own Binds tab for normal action keys.

Vehicle control binds

The default vehicle controls include:

  • Down Arrow for a wheelie on supported vehicles
  • Press RMB to toggle drive by mode as a driver or passenger. Drivers cannot move the vehicle while firing. Driveby Toggle Key defaults to MOUSE2 under /sbinds > Vehicle Binds.
  • Q and E to change a drive-by weapon
  • G to enter as a passenger through the MTA enter_passenger bind
  • N for the left blinker, M for the right blinker, and K for hazard blinkers after /toggleblinkers is enabled

The CIT settings Binds tab lists Left Blinker Key, Right Blinker Key, and Hazard Blinker Key. Double-click a bind with LMB to set its primary key or with RMB to set a secondary key.

Movement and vehicle controls

  • Press G to enter a vehicle as a passenger.
  • Press RMB to toggle drive by mode as a driver or passenger. Drivers cannot move the vehicle while firing. Driveby Toggle Key defaults to MOUSE2 under /sbinds > Vehicle Binds.
  • Motorbike wheelies use the normal vehicle lean controls.
  • Vehicle blinkers use their assigned left and right blinker binds.
  • Hydraulics use the configured vehicle hydraulics controls.
  • Tap the horn bind in a Police vehicle to toggle the siren. Hold it to use the horn.

Check or change the exact assigned key in MTA key bind settings when a control was rebound.

Walk control

The default MTA Walk key is Alt. Check Esc > Settings > Binds if it was changed.

Movement and useful binds

  • Press C to crouch.
  • Press RSHIFT to jump.
  • Hold Space to sprint. Tap Sprint to Toggle Sprinting in settings changes sprint from hold to toggle.
  • Use /bind <key> pick <vehicle ID> to bind a specific F2 vehicle. F2 shows each vehicle ID.
  • Use /sbinds to place weapon binds on keys, including letters such as E, Q, or A.

Special bind limits

  • Outside LV, there is a 300 ms delay before a bind can switch weapons after firing.
  • The default property GUI key is Z. Change it through ESC > Settings > Binds by finding CITproperty2.

Changing a CIT key

Use /sbinds to open /settings > Binds directly. This tab lets you change CIT script keys and shows your assignments in the Key 1 and Key 2 columns. Select a bind and use Primary for its primary key or Second for its alternative key. You can also double click a bind with LMB for Key 1 or RMB for Key 2. The selected bind's help area shows its purpose, default, current key, and second key.

The Key 1 and Key 2 columns show your current primary and alternative keys. For example, if Slot: Assault shows 4 under Key 1, your primary key for that slot is currently 4. Select a bind to see its Default, Current Key, and Second Key in the help area. Second Key: None means that bind has no alternative key assigned. Your current keys can differ from the defaults.

Side mouse buttons such as mouse4 and mouse5 can be assigned in CIT and MTA binds.

These keys can be changed. Check Key 1 and Key 2 for your current bindings. A listed binding does not enable an unavailable activity.
