News Reporter is a civilian job where you race to marked targets and take photos to complete reports.
How the job works
News Reporter is a Civilian job.
After taking the job, you look for marked targets, reach them before other reporters, and photograph them to complete the report. Each successful report increases your News Reporter progression.
How to start
To become a News Reporter:
- Go to Rodeo in LS or Doherty in SF.
- Step into the yellow marker to take the News Reporter job.
In the Employment Office, News Reporter offers Los Santos, Los Santos and San Fierro, Open Sea. After Warp To Job Location, the job marker opens a News Reporter window with Pick the skin you want for this job: and Have Job. Taking the job puts a camera in your weapon list.
How it works
After taking the job:
- Look for blue skull icons on your minimap.
- Be the first reporter to reach the marked player.
- Take their photo with your camera.
- Complete the report and increase your progression.
Side Mission
You can also press:
- F5
This starts the side mission, which marks:
- A red circle
- Then pink targets that you must photograph
At the destination, aim at the center of each floating pink marker. The HUD shows destination distance, ETA, and Pictures left to take. Reports and Pictures Taken are credited when the task completes, not after each picture. Tasks can ask for 4, 7, 8, 9, or 10 pictures.
Targets
Targets can be random players, not only killers or victims. A 5% celebrity spawn chance gives targets worth 2x progress and 3x earnings. There is no hourly photo-count limit.
The Employment Office describes the job this way: when somebody dies, the first reporter to photograph the killer is paid. You can also make money by photographing certain people who come up as a blip, or a vehicle that is involved in a story.
News Reporters can photograph targets inside vehicles if they are close enough. You can also photograph some fires from Fire Fighter missions.

For F5 photo runs, base pay is floor(pictures taken x (rank photo pay / 2 + destination distance / 4)), using the normal no-VIP photo pay for your level. With VIP, floor that result after multiplying by 1.2. The whole task pays after its final picture.

Job Notes
- News Reporter starts in Rodeo or Doherty.
- The job marker is yellow.
- Blue skull icons on the minimap are the main report targets.
- F5 starts the side mission.
- Side mission targets use a red circle and then pink targets.
- You can photograph targets inside vehicles if you are close enough.
- At Level 10, you unlock /go news reporter.
Rapid Transport restriction
Rapid Transport and /rt are completely blocked while working as News Reporter.
Camera tasks and side missions
The HUD shows the current target and task progress. A camera picture can include multiple targets, and normal and celebrity targets in the same picture give their separate rewards.
F5 provides marker and counter controls for News Reporter work. The Big Ear side mission requires 4 pictures. Dying ends the side mission, and another side mission can start after 2 minutes. News Reporter cannot use Rapid Transport or /rt.
Camera use while attached
News Reporters can use the camera while glued to a vehicle.
Camera zoom
Zooming can help you aim at a picture marker, but it does not change whether the picture counts.
