What it means

This is the usual sign of an out-of-date client, or of a server running a different MTA branch.

MTA's own client shows a CC code when something fails before or during a connection: the address, the nickname, a module it could not load, or the connection itself. MTA's own documentation gives this code as RakNet protocol mismatch.

How to fix it

Work down the list and stop when it is solved.

Longer version, with a source on every step: Disconnected by an unknown protocol error.

1. Install the current MTA update

   Close MTA and run the current installer from multitheftauto.com. Several connection codes are simply an old client meeting a newer server.

2. Try the connection again

   Close MTA, open it again and connect once more. A single failed attempt can come from a restart on the server or a short break in your own connection.

3. Copy the whole message first

   Write down every line MTA shows, not only the code. The rest of the message often names the file, the server or the reason, and that is what tells you which step below applies.

4. Check your log if it keeps happening

   Paste the message, or MTA's core.log, into the Fix tool on this site. It runs on your own computer and points at the matching steps.
