MTA:SA setup
MTA:SA on a Mac
There is no Mac version of MTA. MTA's wiki describes running the Windows client inside a Wine wrapper, and says that page is unfinished and meant for developers.
Steps
Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.
Know what MTA offers
MTA's official installers are for Windows. For a Mac, the wiki has one page about building a Wine wrapper. It is marked as incomplete and for developers, and it links a separate install guide.
The wrapper route in short
The wiki's method uses Wineskin: make an empty wrapper, copy your GTA San Andreas folder into it under drive_c/Program Files/Rockstar Games, and test that GTA starts. Then run the MTA installer inside the same wrapper and do not change its destination folder.
Add the three fonts
MTA needs tahoma.ttf, tahomabd.ttf and verdana.ttf. Put them in drive_c/windows/fonts inside the wrapper. Make the fonts folder if it is not there.
Two messages the wiki says you can pass
During the install, an error that it was unable to install a Microsoft Visual Studio redistributable can be ignored. When MTA starts with "Warning: Could not detect anti-virus product", tick the box saying you will not install an anti-virus and press OK. MTA cannot see Mac anti-virus programs.
If MTA cannot validate your serial
Only if MTA shows a serial validation problem.
MTA's serial validation page has a macOS part: download and run the small tool it links on the Mac itself, outside any virtual machine, then try MTA again.
On MTA's forum in 2020, an MTA team member answered a Mac user by pointing back to the warning at the top of the wiki page. Another reply there says the wiki method only works on macOS older than Catalina, and that newer Macs need Windows through Boot Camp or a virtual machine. That second reply is from a player, not from MTA staff.
MTA describes Linux and macOS support as best effort. The wiki's wrapper steps name old versions (Wineskin 1.7), so they may not match a current Mac.
We have not tested MTA on a Mac ourselves. This page only repeats what MTA's own pages say.
Still stuck? The Fix tool reads MTA's own log on your computer and points at the matching steps. Nothing is uploaded.
