Jail

Jail in CIT has two separate uses: law jail for wanted players and staff punishment jail for rule punishments.

How players are jailed

Wanted players can be sent to jail by:

  • being killed by police
  • being tased and arrested with the nightstick
  • using /surrender

Nightstick arrest rules:

  • cops have 45 seconds to land 3 baton hits
  • cops cannot nightstick arrest players inside vehicles
  • cops cannot nightstick arrest inside JFM; they can only kill there

Non violent criminals need at least 30 wanted points for a kill arrest.

Arrested player behavior

  • Arrested players show [Arrested] above their head with the cop name.
  • Arrested players have their hands behind their back.
  • The arrested player is released if the arresting officer glues to a vehicle.
  • The arrested player is released if the arresting officer parachutes.
  • Wanted players cannot enter vehicles driven by police.

Jail fine

Use /payjailfine to pay the jail fine.

Rule Value
Cost formula minutes played divided by 3000
Minimum $10 per second remaining
Money needed cash in hand
Bank money does not work for /payjailfine

Settings can control automatic jail fine payment and max payment.

Inside jail

Jailed players can change skin, use CJ clothes, choose walkstyle, switch fight styles, and use gambling machines.

Law Jail

Law jail is where wanted players are sent after police catch them.

Police can send wanted players to jail by:

  • killing the wanted player
  • tasing the wanted player and arresting them with the nightstick

Most players kill. Police cannot arrest players inside vehicles with the nightstick.

Jail time depends on the player's wanted level.

Jail Fine notes

Use /payjailfine to pay the jail fine.

Rule Value
Cost formula Minutes played divided by 3000
Minimum $10 per second remaining

Inside Law Jail

Jailed players can:

  • change skin
  • use CJ clothes
  • choose a walkstyle
  • switch fight styles
  • use the gambling machines

Escaping Law Jail

A jailed player can escape if a helicopter lands inside the prison yard.

Criminals and gangsters can help prisoners escape:

  1. Go to the jail near Skate Park and Jefferson Hospital.
  2. Be on the Criminal or Gangster side.
  3. Enter the white marker.
  4. Stay there for 10 seconds.
  5. The gate opens.

Helping prisoners escape gives 25 wanted level.

Prison Release

Prison release is a Protected Area.

Wanted players can only jog there. Police can still tase and arrest there. Recently damaged wanted players stay vulnerable briefly to stop abuse.

Staff Punishment Jail

Staff punishment jail is separate from law jail. It is a rule punishment used by staff, and staff choose the jail time based on the offense.

Players jailed by admin cannot escape the prison.

Related commands

Command Use
/payjailfine <seconds> Reduces time spent in prison by paying a fine.
/release <name> Releases an arrested player. Use /release * to release anyone.

Sentence and fine details

The jail entry message separates sentence seconds from wanted level and additional seconds from prison escapes. The HUD shows the remaining sentence.

Jail fines use cash in hand, not bank money. The cost per second is play time in minutes divided by 3000, with a minimum of $10. The jail entry message shows the exact rate. Use /payjailfine without an amount to pay every remaining second and leave immediately, or provide a number of seconds to reduce only that part of the sentence.

Sentence scaling for new players

Jail time depends on wanted level and play time:

Play time Portion of normal sentence
Under 15 hours 25%
Under 150 hours 50%
Under 1500 hours 75%
Above 1500 hours Normal sentence

When jail begins, the message separates sentence seconds from wanted level and extra seconds from prison escapes. The HUD shows the time remaining.

Arrest release and repeat payment

  • A newly spawned wanted player has 4 seconds before an arrest can begin.
  • Release by the officer, driving away, gluing to a vehicle, or parachuting gives the released player 3 seconds of invincibility.
  • The same cop is paid for the first 2 consecutive jails of the same player. The third is unpaid. Another cop jailing the player breaks the sequence, and active event exceptions can still pay.
