MTA:SA fix

Where MTA keeps screenshots, logs and settings

Everything is inside the MTA installation folder: screenshots in screenshots, logs in MTA\logs, and settings in MTA\config\coreconfig.xml.

Steps

Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.

  1. Find the MTA folder

Right-click your MTA shortcut and choose Open file location. The usual place is C:\Program Files (x86)\MTA San Andreas 1.6.

  2. Screenshots

Press F12, or type screenshot in the console, to take one. MTA saves it in the screenshots folder inside the MTA folder, as a PNG named mta-screen_ followed by the date and time.

  3. Logs

Open MTA, then logs. It holds console.log (the text of the F8 console), logfile.txt, clientscript.log and CEGUI.log. core.log sits one level up, in the MTA folder.

  4. Settings and key binds

MTA, then config, holds coreconfig.xml. It stores MTA's settings and binds.

  5. Crash dumps

MTA has a dumps folder next to logs and config. When MTA crashes, copy the text of the crash window first: that is what support and the Fix tool can read.

Worth knowing

The Fix tool can read console.log and logfile.txt for you. The text stays on your computer.

Still stuck? The Fix tool reads MTA's own log on your computer and points at the matching steps. Nothing is uploaded.
