MTA:SA fix

Screen resolution is missing or wrong in MTA

Your screen's resolution is not in the list, the picture is stretched, or only square shapes are offered. Most of it is on the Video tab of MTA's settings.

Steps

Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.

  1. Choose the resolution in MTA

Press ESC, open Settings, then the Video tab, and pick from Resolution. MTA hides modes it marks as unsafe. If a box called Show unsafe resolutions is there, tick it to see the rest.

  2. Fix a stretched picture

On the same tab set Aspect Ratio. The choices are Auto, 4:3, 16:10 and 16:9. HUD Match Aspect Ratio makes the HUD follow it.

  3. Try another fullscreen mode

Fullscreen mode has three choices: Standard, Borderless window and Borderless keep res. There is also a Windowed box. If one mode gives the wrong size, try another. For a borderless window that comes out the wrong size, an MTA moderator's answer on the forum was to tick DPI aware on the same tab.

  4. Only square resolutions are offered

Only if no widescreen resolution is listed at all.

The MTA FAQ's answer for a list with only square resolutions is to reinstall your display driver.

  5. Crash at start with an unusual resolution

Only if MTA crashes right after its splash picture.

If MTA crashes after its splash picture and you use an uncommon resolution, the FAQ says to start GTA San Andreas in single-player, set a common one there (it names 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864 and 1280x1024) and exit.

Still stuck? The Fix tool reads MTA's own log on your computer and points at the matching steps. Nothing is uploaded.
