MTA:SA fix

Voice chat in MTA:SA does not work

Voice chat only exists on servers that turn it on. Where it is on, you hold a key to talk (Z by default). CIT has no voice chat.

Steps

Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.

  1. Check that the server has voice

The client manual lists Z as push to talk "if voice is enabled on the server". The server's owner has to enable voice in the server's settings. On a server without it, nothing you change will make it work.

  2. Hold the talk key while you speak

Hold Z and talk. If that does nothing, open ESC, Settings, Binds and look in Multiplayer Controls for the push to talk key, in case it was changed. In the console the command behind it is voiceptt.

  3. Check the voice volume

In ESC, Settings, Audio, raise Voice volume. On the same tab, Mute Voice sounds when minimized silences voice while MTA is minimized.

  4. Check the microphone in Windows

In the same forum case from 2011, an MTA support staff member (since retired) also had the player check that the microphone is set up correctly in the Windows sound settings.

  5. Someone may be muted

Only on servers that use the standard voice resource.

On servers that use MTA's standard voice resource, a player can be muted by opening the scoreboard and clicking their name. Check that you did not mute them, and ask whether they muted you.

  6. On CIT: there is no voice chat

CIT chat is text only. CIT's knowledge base says to use Discord if you want to talk by voice with other players.
