GTA San Andreas Skimmer missing on Windows 11 24H2

Single player: after the Windows 11 24H2 update, the Skimmer seaplane is gone from its usual places. SilentPatch's author traced it to a 20-year-old bug in the game and published two fixes.

Steps

  1. Single player: update SilentPatch

SilentPatch's page lists this fix: the Skimmer spawns again on Windows 11 24H2. It works with the 1.0, Steam and Rockstar Launcher copies.

Careful: Single player only. Before you play MTA, MTA asks you to delete every .asi file from the GTA and MTA folders. Its own example is SilentPatch's file.

  2. Or fix one line yourself

The author's steps without mods: in the game folder, open data\vehicles.ide with Notepad. Find the line that starts with 460, skimmer and replace it with the new line shown on the author's page. The new line only adds four values at the end: -1, 0.7, 0.7, -1. Save the file.

Careful: Copy vehicles.ide somewhere safe first, so you can put it back.

  3. Not in the GTA copy MTA uses

Do not change vehicles.ide in the GTA folder that MTA uses. MTA's anti-cheat guide lists data/vehicles.ide among the files it checks, and by default you cannot join a server with changed GTA data files.

Worth knowing

The bug was reported to MTA in 2025. An MTA contributor could not make it happen, SilentPatch's author wrote that MTA may already avoid it, and MTA closed the report as not planned.

The author found that the Skimmer line in vehicles.ide misses four values that every other plane has. Windows 11 24H2 only made the old mistake visible.
