MTA:SA fix

Mouse freezes after joining any MTA server

When you join a server, the mouse stops working inside MTA and you cannot use the menus, while the rest of your PC works. First check that MTA's CPU affinity setting is ticked.

Steps

  1. Make sure the CPU affinity setting is on

In the MTA main menu, open Settings, then the Advanced tab. Make sure Set CPU 0 affinity to improve game performance is ticked, then click OK. It is ticked by default, so you only need to change it if it was turned off.

Careful: MTA's team says this did not fix it for some players, and most of them already had the setting on.

  2. Make a log with MTADiag

Only if the mouse still freezes.

Run MTA's log tool from mtasa.com/mtadiag and follow its instructions. It gives you a link to your log. Keep the link for the next step.

  3. Still frozen: ask MTA's support

Only if the mouse still freezes.

Join MTA's Discord (discord.com/invite/mtasa) and ask for help in the #help-support channel. Add your log link.

Worth knowing

An MTA team member wrote on 13 May 2025 that the problem appears to be linked to the CPU affinity setting. The same day they wrote that they got confirmation that turning the setting on fixes it.

In many reports, MTA's window that asks you to allow or block websites was open when the mouse froze (MTA team member, 12 May 2025).

The person who reported it (MTA v1.6-release-23196) says restarting the game or the PC does not help.

MTA's own help text for the CPU affinity setting says: Only change if you're having stability issues.

An MTA team member asks players to raise client problems in #help-support on Discord, not on GitHub.

Still not fixed? Copy the whole message, not only the code, and check your log in the Fix tool. It is read on your own computer.
