MTA crashes, freezes or closes unexpectedly

Choose the steps that match when MTA crashes. A crash address alone does not show the cause.

Steps

Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.

1. Update MTA and repeat the trigger

   Install the current official MTA release, then try the action that caused the failure.

2. Use borderless mode for an Alt-Tab failure

   Only if switching away from or back to the game triggers the crash.

   Only if switching windows triggers it, try MTA Settings → Advanced → Fullscreen mode → Borderless window. Keep your previous mode so you can restore it.

3. Test original GTA files if you added local mods

   Only if the GTA installation contains local modifications.

   Only if you changed GTA with a single player mod pack, back up that setup and use a clean game installation from your trusted game source.

4. Use the exact failure if it remains

   Keep the full crash dialog and the action that triggers it. Search any named error here or prepare a report; an exception such as 0xC0000005 does not identify one cause.
