MTA crash: The crash was caused by a graphics driver error

MTA crashed, and the crash window says a graphics driver error caused it. Update your graphics driver first, then install the DirectX runtime and the newest MTA.

Steps

1. Update your graphics card driver

   MTA's crash window asks you to update your graphics drivers. Install the newest driver for your graphics card. MTA's guide links the NVIDIA and AMD driver pages.

2. On a laptop: use the maker's drivers

   Only if you play on a laptop or notebook.

   Go to your laptop maker's website and download the newest drivers for your device, including the newest graphics driver.

3. Install the legacy DirectX runtime

   Download and install Microsoft's legacy DirectX runtime (the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer).

4. Install the newest MTA

   Install the latest release of MTA. MTA has one download for Windows 10 and 11 and one for Windows 7 and 8.x.

5. Close programs that can interfere

   Close other programs that may interfere with the game, for example Evolve, RivaTuner or MSI Afterburner. Then try MTA again.

6. Restart the PC

   If MTA still fails, restart your computer after these installs and try again.
