MTA in Bottles on Linux: will not start, flickers or no web panels
MTA in Bottles (Soda runner) does not start, the window keeps flickering, fonts are missing, or web panels such as a login window do not show. Use the steps that match. You may need more than one.
wine: Call from 7BF6CB38 to unimplemented function KERNEL32.dll.CopyFile2, aborting
Steps
No start with CopyFile2: change the runner
Only if MTA does not start after you install or update it, no splash screen shows, and the Wine console shows the CopyFile2 line.
In Bottles, change the bottle's runner to caffe-9.7. Then start MTA again.

Flickering window: use Standard fullscreen
Only if MTA reaches the main menu but the window keeps flickering.
In MTA, open Settings, then the Video tab, and set Fullscreen mode to Standard.

Missing fonts: install allfonts
Only if MTA does not start because fonts such as Verdana or Tahoma are missing.
Open your bottle, scroll down to Dependencies and install allfonts. It adds all the fonts supplied by Windows.

Web panels missing: copy the CEF files
Only if MTA runs but web-based (CEF) panels, such as a login window, do not load, and MTA does not crash.
In Bottles, click the icon with three dots at the top right and choose Browse Files. This opens the bottle's drive_c folder. Go to Program Files (x86)/MTA San Andreas 1.6/MTA/. Copy these files from there into the CEF folder inside it: CEFLauncher.exe, CEFLauncher_DLL.dll, cefweb.dll, chrome_100_percent.pak, chrome_200_percent.pak, chrome_elf.dll, icudtl.dat, libcef.dll, resources.pak, v8_context_snapshot.bin.
Careful: If you install a newer MTA later and CEF then crashes, remove these files again with the next step.

CEF crashes after an update: remove those files
Only if you copied those files before and CEF crashes after you installed a newer MTA.
Delete those same files from the MTA/CEF folder, then start MTA. If MTA reports an integrity failure when it starts, run the MTA installer again.

MTA's Bottles manual says to use the MTA installer for Windows 10 and newer, not the older Windows 7/8 one.
MTA's Steam Deck manual calls Bottles with Soda the simpler way on a Steam Deck.
The Bottles manual lists two more problems with no fix yet. Some characters show as squares in the chat box and in some on-screen text: this is still being investigated. On-screen text that is squashed together or cut off is a problem inside Wine itself.
These steps come from a saved copy of MTA's Bottles manual of 3 October 2026.
We have not tested these steps on Linux ourselves. They are MTA's own instructions in shorter words.
