MTA:SA fix

Fatal error or CRC mismatch when joining a server

A numbered Fatal error means the game and the server disagreed while you joined. Update MTA first. Some of these can only be fixed by the server's owner.

Fatal Error 3

CRC mismatch

Steps

Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.

  1. Install the latest MTA

MTA's page for a client fatal error has one fix: install the latest release, then try again.

  2. Fatal Error 3 is the server's setting

Only if the number shown is 3.

Fatal error 3 means "server downloads disabled". The MTA FAQ says the server does not have HTTP downloading turned on, so only its owner can fix it.

  3. The server may be out of date

For a server fatal error, MTA's page says to ask the server owner to update the MTA server, then connect again.

  4. CRC mismatch in the chatbox

Only if the chatbox shows CRC mismatch.

The MTA FAQ says this is a server problem: the server's files changed without a restart, or its download server is out of step. Tell the owner.

  5. Try another server to compare

Join a different server. If only one server gives the error, tell that server's owner. If every server gives it, install the latest MTA again from the official site.

Worth knowing

MTA's client manual lists what each fatal error number from 1 to 14 means. The Script and resource numbers page in this tool has the same table.

Still stuck? The Fix tool reads MTA's own log on your computer and points at the matching steps. Nothing is uploaded.
