MTA:SA fix
Lag, high ping or packet loss in MTA
Ping is the time your game and the server need to answer each other. Look at the real numbers first, then fix what you can on your side.
Steps
Try one step, then check whether the problem is still there. Follow any "only if" line before changing a setting.
Look at the numbers
Open the console with F8 and type shownetstat 1. MTA shows network statistics, including your ping and packet loss. Type shownetstat 0 to hide them.
Distance matters
MTA's manual explains ping as the time for data to come back from the server, and says servers closest to you usually have the lowest ping. A server far away will always have more.
Free up your connection
Restart your router. Use a network cable instead of Wi-Fi if you can, or sit closer to the router. Close browsers, torrents, update programs, streaming and cloud backup apps while you play.
On CIT: what high ping does
With high ping CIT puts you in Fighting limited mode: you cannot move while aiming or shooting and get a [Lagger] tag. Over 900 ms all controls are disabled until it drops. Packet loss over 20% can get you auto-killed.
Check that it is not low FPS
Only if your ping and packet loss look normal.
A slow, stuttering picture with normal ping is an FPS problem, not a network one. Use the low FPS fix in this tool.
Still stuck? The Fix tool reads MTA's own log on your computer and points at the matching steps. Nothing is uploaded.
